Founded in the 1950’s, the Black theater is based on a combination of traditional plays, musicals, ballets and mime shows, as well as on the Laterna Magika technological innovations, such as the use of multimedia.
The development of the ultraviolet lamp, in the 1960’s and 1970’s, enabled to discover new fluorescent colors, brought in fashion by the hippy movement and massively used in the black theater. The stage is entirely black, as well as the comedians’ costumes, who thus become invisible, while the handled objects and accessories stand out in bright colors and create spectacular visual effects.
