Discover the splendor of Bohemia's medieval art through the medieval art collections of the National Gallery, which belong to the most beautiful in Europe. The 14th century was its golden era as Emperor Charles IV and the whole Luxembourg dynasty were passionate patrons. They attracted a multitude of artists to Prague - painters, sculptors, goldsmiths - thus contributing to converting Bohemia into a major art center in Europe.

You will get to know the major artists of this period in the company of an art historian: the anonymous master of the Vyšší Brod cycle and its amazing iconographic and symbolic magnificence; the master Theodoric, whose portraits embody with genius the theological and political view of the Emperor; and the master from Třeboň, whose works of art are bathed with an unprecedented mysticism and lyricism. You will fall under the spell of the Virgins, painted or sculpted, images of devotion emerging from all parts. You will explore the art in Bohemia in the 15th and 16th centuries, that arose after the devastation caused by the Hussite Wars that ransacked the country.

The tour will also enable you to delight in the premises of the Saint Agnes Convent, the oldest Gothic building in Prague, which is the perfect setting for this first-class collection.
