Core of the memory of a people and of a time, the Jewish Quarter of Prague remains vivid in the mind of its inhabitants through its famous myths and legends, such as that of Rabbi Löw and the Golem, but also in the European folk memory through its influence on art, on the European culture and thanks to the legacy left to us by Franz Kafka, Marx Brod and many others.
The tour enables to discover the story of the Jewish community from the 10th to the 20th century, one of the most significant minorities in Bohemia before the Holocaust. The quarter is also the only Central-European Jewish ghetto that wasn’t torn down during the Holocaust. The Pinkas Synagogue was transformed into a Memorial, dedicated to the victims of this tragedy from Bohemia and Moravia.
The other visited synagogues are the Maisel, the Spanish and the Klausen Synagogues, used today as exhibition venues. The tour will also take you to the Old Jewish Cemetery: you will walk along its intertwined paths, admiring its historical gravestones. A walk along the Maiselova Street will lead you to the Old Town Square, where your trip through Jewish history ends.
