Perched on a promontory above the river, it surmounts Prague's panorama. Its historical and artistic value places it amongst the gems of the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The site is one of the world’s largest castle complexes and has been the seat of Czech rulers for more than a thousand years. Today it houses the headquarters of the President of the Czech Republic and the see of Prague’s archbishop at the Saint Vitus Cathedral: it is the undisputed spiritual and political heart of the nation.
A bus will pick you up at the Gray Line office in the city center and will take you to the summer garden (in the summer) or the Lion’s Court (in the winter). The tour will then continue on foot, with a walk across the Castle Square (Hradčanské náměstí), you will then pass through the castle’s main gate to the Courtyard of Honor, where you can observe the guards. You will visit the St Vitus Cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece, with the tomb of Emperor Charles IV; the Old Royal Palace with the incredible Vladislas hall and its vaulted ceiling that reminds of a filigree; the plain St George Basilica with its white towers and the oldest convent in Bohemia.
