In 2026, the Christmas markets will take place from 20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027, across several squares of the capital :

• Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) : 28 November 2026 – 6 January 2027
• Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí) : 28 November 2026 – 6 January 2027
• Republic Square (náměstí Republiky) : 25 November – 24 December 2026
• Peace Square (náměstí Míru) : 20 November – 24 December 2026
• Tylovo Square (Tylovo náměstí) : 26 November – 24 December 2026

Opening hours : 10h00–19h00 (náměstí Míru, Tylovo náměstí), 10h00–20h00 (náměstí Republiky) and 10h00–22h00 (Václavské náměstí, Staroměstské náměstí)

The Grand Old Town Market

The most beautiful and largest market takes place on Old Town Square. A huge Christmas tree, a nativity scene, and 82 wooden chalets form the beating heart of the festivities. Each evening between 4:30 PM and 9:30 PM, the tree lights up with music and color. The decorations reflect Czech traditions, with angel arches and many photo spots.

The Wenceslas Square Market

You’ll find another Christmas market right in the city center, at the lower end of the popular tourist destination, Wenceslas Square. Here, you can enjoy mulled wine and sausage while taking in the view of the illuminated National Museum building. You can then combine your visit to the markets with a trip to local shops to buy Christmas gifts.

The Republic Square Market

The market on Republic Square Market is also very easily accessible in the city center; it’s located right next to the Powder Tower and the Art Nouveau Municipal House, so you can easily include it in a stroll through the Old Town and admire the local architecture. The specific food offerings vary by season. It’s also a great place to do your Christmas shopping. The Palladium shopping center is right next to the square.

The Peace Square Market

A little further from the city center is the market on Peace Square Market, in front of the Neo-Gothic Church of St. Ludmila. You can easily reach the Vinohrady neighborhood from the city center by tram or Metro Line A. In addition to vendors selling handmade crafts, you’ll also find food stalls offering tastings of specialties from around the world. A visit to this market can therefore be a great culinary experience for you.

The Tylovo Square Market

Also in Vinohrady, just a short walk from Peace Square Market, you’ll find the market on Tylovo Square Market, which has a very intimate atmosphere. This market is ideal for those who want to explore smaller Advent markets away from the bustling historic center. The markets offer traditional Christmas treats, hot drinks, sweets, Christmas decorations, and small gifts.

Christmas Shopping and Handicrafts

Prague is a true paradise for Christmas shopping. You’ll find :

• Hand-blown and hand-painted baubles, wooden or corn-husk garlands
• Mistletoe wreaths, traditional františek incense
• Wooden or ceramic nativity scenes, embroidered linens, crocheted toys
• Wooden, clay, or plaster marionettes inspired by Czech theatre
• High-quality wooden toys
• Bohemian crystal, known for its purity and elegance
• Bohemian garnet, a unique deep-red gemstone found only in this region

Tip : take time to compare — some shops sell lower-quality imitations.
