U Veverky (The Squirrel) is an institution in the Dejvice neighbourhood. A cross-section of local society visits this pub for the excellent Pilsen beer and Czech cuisine, from hungry workmen to students and white-collar worker staff. Every day, the watering hole serves several ready-made meals from the classic pub grub repertoire, such as goulash with potato pancakes, čevapčiči (Balkan-style sausages) with mustard, dumplings with speck, beef sirloin in creamy vegetable sauce, or Paprika Chicken.

Veverka is a typical pub, but unlike at many of its counterparts, the service is pleasant and quick. The postcards you’ll see pinned up are evidence that this establishment attracts many regulars. They send the greetings to their local from destinations all over the world. Although the pub’s two rooms are quite large, finding a place during the evening or at the lunchtime break can prove quite difficult.

The tasty menu at Veverka includes classic Czech salads, such as cabbage with horseradish, cucumber salad, or tomato with onions. And usually you won’t find the salads in small bowls but rather in quarter kilogram versions
