Travelcard

In Prague, you’ll perhaps notice people boarding the metro, bus or tram without stamping tickets. Many locals have a monthly or annual season ticket downloaded on the Lítačka chip card, which is in their own name. This prepaid card allows unlimited travel on Prague public transport.

In certain European cities, if you’re staying for a week or longer you can purchase a ticket used by local residents. However, we don’t recommend doing so, especially if you’re staying in the city for just a couple of days:

  • The administration fee for the card costs CZK 200 / approximately EUR 8. Then you have to add a minimum amount of CZK 550 / approximately EUR 22, which is the minimum monthly fare for an adult.

  • Communicating with the person behind the counter may not be entirely smooth because of the language barrier.

  • The historic centre of Prague isn’t large, and it’s possible that you could spend your time in the city without the need for a ticket.

Tourists can buy a one-day or three-day ticket. More information is available in the article on public transport tickets in Prague.
