This is a trendy, upmarket joint where celebrities and politicians rub shoulders and host celebrations, which means that prices are accordingly high. On the other hand, anyone who comes here can boast that he or she has stopped at the Castle (a prestigious address to the ears of a Praguer) for coffee, lunch or a snack (but that doesn’t necessarily mean sitting at the table with the president). A visit is also an opportunity to see the work of Slovene architect Josip Plečnik, who landscaped the space based on Japanese and Italian garden styles. The results of his work are well worth a look, both inside, and especially in the garden area, where pine trees rustle in the wind. The menu is quite traditional, with a Czech focus, and ranges from cakes to Pilsen beer.
Opinions vary on the quality of the coffee and meals. Many visitors love them; many less so. But everyone agrees that this is a unique place. At this regal residence, everyone feels like a king, at least for a moment or so.
