This pub (The Tomcat) plays a famous role in Czech history, not purely for beer-related reasons. It’s associated with the Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal, who liked to come here for the beer.

At U Kocoura, life still goes on as it did in Hrabal’s day. This legendary pub is one of the few in Prague where the visitor can still see the authentic style of a Czech pub from the beginning of the last century. The old-world design lives on in the interior, without imitations. On the menu you’ll find a traditional assortment of pub meals, which aren’t sophisticated but taste good. In addition, prices at U Kocoura stay reasonable, which makes eating here a pleasant surprise, in contrast to the overpriced bars and restaurants of the Lesser Town.

Want to know a secret?

If you want to taste what a Czech of the older generation would typically eat with his glass of beer, U kocoura offers the perfect opportunity. Examples include beer cheese (with olives), brawn with onion, and grilled sausages.
